Access for external users

Guests of the University of Wuppertal

The ZIM can issue guest accounts to people who are neither employees nor students of the University of Wuppertal (BUW), such as visiting researchers, employees of cooperation partners or interns.
These guest accesses authorise the use of ZIM services within the BUW.

However, guest access is usually only granted if official tasks at the BUW make it absolutely necessary to use the ZIM services.

The application for guest access must be submitted and justified by the supervisor or host via the online account application. The final decision on the allocation of guest access lies with ZIM.

WLAN for conference guests

Participants of conferences and meetings can usually use eduroam for WLAN access if their university participates in DFN roaming.

As an event organiser, you can apply for a conference account for participants without this option. BUW employees are eligible to apply for a conference account, with the exception of assistant employees.

You can easily submit the application online via our portal for online applications (accessible from the university network or VPN and authentication via ZIM account and two-factor authentication).

Members of other universities

Members of other state universities are, in a broader sense, to be treated in the same way as members of the University of Wuppertal. For this reason, the University of Wuppertal offers members of other universities access to the WLAN via DFN roaming (eduroam).
Here you can find a map of the participating universities.

Note: As this is a nationwide agreement, this also applies vice versa for BUW members who live in Cologne, for example, and would like to use the services of the University of Cologne.

If your university does not offer DFN roaming, an account application can be submitted by the lecturer or seminar leader via the online account application. A certificate of study or employment valid for at least 8 weeks must be uploaded.

Please note that it can take up to a week to process the application. You should therefore submit the application in time.
