Information for teaching staff | E-exams@home

At the University of Wuppertal, e-exams@home are considered “digital examinations” (digitale Prüfungen) – i.e. university exams conducted in electronic form and via digital communication (for example through Zoom). These are subject to specific requirements and conditions in order to be permitted as substitutes for in-person teaching and examinations. In contrast, e-exams@uni are classified as “electronic examinations” (elektronische Prüfungen), not as digital examinations.

On this page, you will find all relevant information about the e-exam@home format, including the conditions that must be met in order to use it. For guidance on conducting an e-exam on site, please refer to the subpage E-exams@uni. All general information – especially on the post-exam phase – can be found on the subpage General Information.

FAQ | Preparing an e-exam@home

The Higher Education Digital Ordinance (Hochschul-Digitalverordnung – HDVO) came into force on 1 April 2024. On 23 January 2024, the Rectorate adopted a digitisation guideline for the implementation of the HDVO (Digitalisierungsleitlinie, Official Announcement 3/24). These guidelines authorise the faculty boards to replace classroom teaching and in-person examinations with digital teaching and digital examinations, provided that the chosen format is particularly suitable in didactic terms.

Many steps of an e-exam@home are analogous to those of an e-exam@uni.

Key differences concern the technical requirements that examinees must meet (PC, laptop, and peripherals). The entire exam is accompanied by a Zoom meeting, which is used for identity verification, distribution of the LPLUS exam link, and invigilation. Technical support from the e-exam team is provided by phone.

Given the different framework conditions, it is also advisable to critically review the design of exam questions and, if necessary, shift them to a higher taxonomic level. Please feel free to contact us for advice in this regard.

A customised Zoom meeting for your e-exam@home will be set up by the e-exam team. You will be added as a co-host. All key details will be sent to you by email at the beginning of the exam period. The meeting serves as the central communication channel and enables exam invigilation.

If you, as the responsible examiner, are offering several e-exams@home in the same semester, only one meeting will be created for all of these exams.

All key details for the Zoom meeting will be sent to you by email at the beginning of the exam period. You can then forward these to your students, including a link to the webpage “Information for Students”.

The Zoom meeting is always equipped with a waiting room, allowing access to be controlled as needed.
