FAQ | Conducting an e-exam@uni

Please arrive at the e-exam rooms (e-exam team: L.11.29) 15–30 minutes before your scheduled slot, just like your students. This allows you to coordinate final organisational details with the on-site member of the e-exam team (e.g. identity checks, permitted aids, handling restroom visits, option of early submission).

Thanks to built-in buffer times in the room schedule, students can usually be admitted up to 15 minutes before the official start of the slot, ensuring the exam begins on time.

Example: Exam scheduled 10:00–11:30 (90 min):

  • Invigilators arrive: 09:40
  • Student entry possible from: 09:45 (earliest!)
  • Exam start: approx. 10:00

Yes. You and your staff are responsible for invigilation inside the e-exam rooms. The e-exam team only provides technical support.

If your e-exam takes place in multiple rooms at the same time, you must ensure that each room is invigilated. Please also note that for students with a compensation for disadvantage (e.g. extended time), invigilation must be guaranteed on site for the entire duration of their exam.

E-exams without the required invigilation will not be carried out.

Before each e-exam, examinees must arrive on time at the designated waiting area in front of the e-exam rooms:

  • For room L.11.22/27: stairwell L.11 at the point where buildings L, M and N meet on level 11 (“Kern LMN”)
  • For rooms T.09.01 und T.09.20/23: stairwell T.09 at the point where buildings S, T and U meet on level 9 (“Kern STU”)

Entry is managed by you or your invigilation staff.

All three e-exam rooms have separate entry and exit routes. This ensures that, if necessary, examinees from consecutive sittings do not meet physically or exchange information. Thanks to the spatial separation between buildings L and T, up to 300 examinees can be assessed with the same exam across two consecutive sittings.

You or your invigilation staff are responsible for identity verification. Since the student ID card was discontinued in summer semester 2025, the following three options are available:

  • At the exam desk: photo ID
  • At the exam desk: photo ID + printed certificate of study
  • At entry: photo ID + digital student ID card

You are free to choose which option to apply. Please note, however, that due to the tight schedule and high utilisation of the e-exam rooms, there are usually only 5–10 minutes available until all examinees must be seated at their exam desks. Therefore, please only opt for identity checks at entry if you can ensure a timely start of the exam. In the large e-exam room L.11.22/27, this typically requires organising multiple invigilators at several entrances to manage entry efficiently.

The decision whether to admit latecomers rests with you and your invigilation staff. From a technical perspective, an e-exam can be started at any time within your allocated slot.

Please note, however, that late-arriving examinees will always be shown the full working time in the examination system. Due to the tightly scheduled slots, submission must nonetheless take place at the same time as for the examinees who started punctually. This can be done manually via the Submit button and must be overseen by you or your invigilation staff.

For every e-exam, a member of the e-exam team is either on site or available by phone and will provide immediate support should any technical problems occur.
