Information for teaching staff | Compensation for disadvantage
Our aim is to ensure equal opportunities in studying so that university life is accessible to students with disabilities and/or chronic illnesses. To support this, students may apply for a compensation for disadvantage if they have a long-term or permanent disability, a chronic condition, or a psychological illness.
Granted compensations for disadvantage can, of course, also be implemented in the context of an e-exam - this is particularly straightforward and low-effort for everyone involved. To ensure smooth implementation, please allow a lead time of at least (!) one week before the exam date.
Below, you will find answers to frequently asked questions related to e-exams, as well as links to the relevant university services offering further information.
FAQ | Compensation for disadvantage in e-exams
If an examinee has been granted a compensation for disadvantage by the responsible examinations committee, you as the examiner must inform us at least one week before your e-exam via email. Only with sufficient lead time can we ensure the necessary organisational arrangements.
Please include the following information in your message:
- Name of the exam
- Personal details of the examinee (first name, surname, matriculation number)
- Form of the granted compensation for disadvantage (e.g. extended time, separate exam room)
Most compensations for disadvantage take the form of extended time. Depending on the approval, this extension may be specified as a percentage (relative, e.g. +30%) or as a fixed amount of time (absolute, e.g. +15 minutes). Please provide the exact duration directly in your notification to us.
Yes. Each compensation for disadvantage is treated as an individual case and must be reported to us separately for every e-exam.
Compensations for disadvantage are generally accommodated in room L.11.29, which is directly adjacent to the e-exam room L.11.22/27. Room L.11.29 offers four exam desks and provides a noticeably quieter working environment. A member of the e-exam team is present on site.
If extended time has been approved, it is added manually in the LPLUS exam system shortly after the exam has started. The adjusted exam duration will then appear for the examinee with a slight delay. The use of specific assistive tools is possible following prior consultation.
If your exam runs across multiple sittings, the examinee with a compensation for disadvantage will always start at the regular start time of the first sitting.
Yes. At least one member of your invigilation staff must be present for the entire duration of the exam - this applies both to the regular exam time and to exams with extended time. Although the e-exam team is on site throughout the exam to assist with technical questions, we do not provide subject-related invigilation.
At all exam desks, you can enlarge the exam content as needed using keyboard shortcuts, and adjust contrast via the monitor settings. If you have individual requirements, please feel free to contact us in advance.
